TextEN  The Etna was one the first antiaircraft cruisers build in Italy. Originally ordered by Siam (now Thailand), it was laid down in 1939 as Taksin, equipped with six 15,2 cm guns. In 1942 the ship was taken over by Italy and it was decided to continue it as an AA cruiser which also could serve as flagship. The ship was still under construction in Trieste when it was captured by German troops after the surrender of Italy on 10.09.1943. To prevent their use by the Germans, the ship was sunk by the retreating Italians. Completed about 60%, the Germans never intended to continue the construction, after the war, it was found scuttled in Trieste harbor, refloated and scrapped.(371). Her sister was Vesuvio ex Naresuan
